Adelante at ARISE
ARISE High School serves a diverse student population with a range of academic and socio-emotional needs. This includes students who are performing below grade level, students who are performing above grade level, students who qualify for special education services, and students who are learning English as a secondary language. Serving all these students well is a core design element of the ARISE High School program.
In order for ALL students to be able to meet the high expectations that ARISE High School holds, a thorough system of support is critical. While our entire school is designed in such a way as to make the educational experience highly personalized, attentive, and responsive, Adelante Student Support Services is both structure and philosophy at ARISE to provide intensive support towards helping students move forward. While there are systems and programs that exist within the Adelante canopy, Adelante itself cannot be reduced to a process or policy.
As such, Adelante Student Services works within the whole school community to create the conditions, procedures, and resources to support struggling students academically & socio-emotionally using these approaches: Restorative Justice Praxis, Universal Education Model, and Response to Intervention (RTI). The links to the right provides details on these three approaches. While our model is squarely focused on integrated services throughout the school program and day, services to different subgroups are also detailed in accordance with the education code.

Redesigning Student Support
For the 2022-23 School Year, we have redesigned our student support systems by increasing the number of support staff and restructuring our teams to ensure that students have a smooth transition back into the classroom and increased mentorship & guidance during in-person learning. We now have a total of four Academic Counselors (one per grade level), two student case managers for the lower & upper grades, an additional SPED admin, an Enrichment Coordinator & Athletics Director, and an entire team of ARISE alumni as Academic Mentors and classroom TAs.
We have also established the Adelante Leadership Team (ALT), which defines the roles, responsibilities, and deliverables of all members of the Adelante team. This team will also determine the flow and trajectory of Adelante’s work, facilitate communication between ALT and the Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) & Team Freire, and look at bigger picture data around student engagement to ensure student success.
