LINKED LEARNING

Based on the principle of equity, it has the fundamental goal of increasing both postsecondary education and workforce opportunities for all students by integrating rigorous academics with career-themed instruction, work-based learning, and greater student supports. The approach provides relevant and motivating education experiences to high school students by connecting learning to real-world situations through a range of career-oriented pathways.

PUBLIC HEALTH & EDUCATION INDUSTRIES

Both are high-demand industries in which people of color are under-represented. We seek to prepare students to take advantage of these employment opportunities and to act as agents of change to help make these sectors more equitable.

In addition, the skills learned in these pathways are transferable to such careers as therapist, social worker, youth worker, community organizer, engineer, urban planner, designer, or construction manager

+ Public Health Sector:

Healthcare is one of the fastest growing sectors in the country. Over the next 10 years, the East Bay is expected to have more than 100,000 openings in the entry-level and middle-skill public healthcare sector.

+ Education Sector:

There are more than 1,500 unfilled teaching positions and nearly 500 vacancies for counselors and administrators in Oakland schools alone. Over the next 10 years,  California is projected to have nearly 10,000 openings for teaching assistants.
