FIA was founded in March 2019 by East Oakland school leaders and families in response to growing local and statewide political threats to accessing quality public schools. Today, FIA brings district and charter school communities together to build strategy and campaigns. We are realizing our collective agency and power.

Carmen Flores Recreation Center is located in the heart of Oakland’s Fruitvale district. Diverse recreational programs are offered at low cost for tiny tots, youth, teens, adults and seniors.
La Clinica Dental
La Clínica’s first dental site opened its doors in 1978. Fruitvale Dental, located in Oakland’s Fruitvale District, offers dental care to low-income families. Our doctors are trained to provide services to patients of all ages, from babies to the elderly. We provide a wide scope of care to all of our patients, including preventive care (exams, cleaning, polishing, hygiene, fluoride, sealant treatment), general dentistry, pedodontics, periodontics, prosthodontics, endodontics and orthodontics.
Bay Area Medical Academy (Phlebotomy)

Center for Elders’ Independence
They support participants’ in any medical, social, emotional and nutritional needs. They work together to create a personalized care plan that may include some or all of CEI’s services. These depend on medical needs, which may change over time. In-home care is given to people who need it for medical reasons.
East Oakland Boxing Association
The East Oakland Boxing Association (EOBA) is about much more than boxing. EOBA is focused on improving lives through education and mentoring, promoting health and wellness, providing cultural enrichment, developing youth leaders, and building a better community.
CityTeam Oakland
CityTeam is founded on meeting local needs. Their programs across the United States offer help and hope to those in need with hot meals, shelter, life transformation programs, clothing, hygiene items, learning and career help, discovery Bible studies, and so much more. Each city has customized programs to specifically meet the needs of their community.
St. Vincent de Paul
Volunteers are a vital part of St. Vincent de Paul’s efforts to help those in need, including children, seniors and entire families. SVDP serves up to 700 hot meals per day to people in need. The Dining Room is a vital doorway to other social services for those whose lives are often at a standstill. The welcoming atmosphere sets the stage for many to seek out other SVdP services right there on the downtown campus.

This organization is to help East Bay families improve their lives, embrace their heritage, and develop as civic leaders by promoting educational enrichment and civic responsibility.
Mentoring in Medicine & Science
MIMS is a nonprofit organization operating in Oakland, California. Our mission is to increase the number of underrepresented health professionals through mentoring, career exposure, and leadership development.
ROOTS Health Clinic
Founded in Oakland, California, the mission of Roots Community Health Center is to uplift those impacted by systemic inequities and poverty. We accomplish this through medical and behavioral health care, health navigation, workforce enterprises, housing, outreach, and advocacy.
Heal Program (Highland Hospital)
The HEAL Program internship introduces high school students of color to career opportunities in the healthcare field. Students gain exposure to health careers through experiences such as shadowing doctors, nurses, and other clinicians; skills workshops; seminars; hands-on experiences in our simulation center; and field trips. Internship options include in-school and after school experiences
Planting Justice
Since 2009 Planting Justice has built over 450 edible permaculture gardens in the San Francisco Bay Area, worked with five high-schools to develop food justice curricula and created 40 green jobs in the food justice movement for folks transitioning from prison.

Brothers on the Rise
BOTR uses “lenses” of gender, culture, class, environment, and systems to critically examine challenges facing low-income urban male youth of color, and to identify, implement and advocate for strategies needed to eliminate these obstacles. By helping youth, adult allies and organizations to think critically, we facilitate change on individual, organizational and institutional levels
