Freshman Math Placement

Math Placement (EDC § 51224.7)

Incoming 9th graders are assessed twice through the NWEA (MAP) math assessment to determine their math placement, once during the summer and again during the first month to ensure students are in the correct math classes. Students or parents who feel that a placement is inappropriate can petition for a retake of the assessment, or can make an appointment for a full transcript audit with our counseling team. Students are continually assessed throughout the year via pre and post assessments that are backwards planned through Illustrative Mathematics (IM) to assess their growth in the course and to provide feedback for the teacher to better adjust the course. Benchmark assessments are given at the end of each quarter to assess student's growth in each math class and to provide feedback for teachers to reteach material.
