Multi-Tiered System of Supports
MTSS is how ARISE makes sure every student gets the academic, social-emotional, and behavioral support they need to thrive. Supports are layered: every student receives strong Tier 1 support, and we add more as students need it. At its heart, MTSS is about connection, building meaningful relationships so every Warrior Intellectual is known and cared for.

From Concern to Connection
Anyone can raise a concern about a student: a teacher, a family member, or the student themselves.
A teacher, family member, or student notices a student needs more support, academically, emotionally, with basic needs, or with attendance.
Teachers and advisors try concrete supports first and review progress together in Academic Familia over about four weeks.
If more help is needed, submit the Student Support Request Form to refer the student to our COST team.
Our Coordination of Services Team reviews each request, connects the student to the right supports, and follows up.
The People Behind the Support
Special Education and 504 Plans
Students with disabilities are welcome at ARISE. We serve students with IEPs and 504 Plans in inclusive classrooms, with specialized support from our special education team.
Child Find: Help Us Reach Every Student
Under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (20 U.S.C. §§ 1400 et seq.) and California law, ARISE is responsible for identifying, locating, and evaluating enrolled students with known or suspected disabilities to determine whether they need special education and related services. This includes students with disabilities who are experiencing homelessness or are wards of the State.
If you know or suspect a student has a disability, please contact Robyn Collignon, Director of Special Education, at robyn@arisehighschool.org or 510-436-5487, or submit the Student Support Request Form. All referrals are confidential. Parents, legal guardians, and surrogate parents keep the right to refuse services and all procedural safeguards under federal and state law.
Section 504 Plans
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act protects students with disabilities from discrimination in schools that receive federal funding and ensures they have equal access to educational opportunities. Schools must provide a free appropriate public education (FAPE) to students with disabilities.
To learn more about 504 Plans or other support for your student, contact Robyn Collignon at robyn@arisehighschool.org.
English Learners
ARISE holds the same rigorous expectations for every student, whatever their home language. English Learners receive integrated and designated English Language Development aligned with the California ELD Standards, and the ELPAC, NWEA MAP, and our local assessments guide each student's personalized plan. We also encourage students to build literacy in their home language through advanced language classes at ARISE and at local colleges, because every student brings strengths worth building on.
