Student Support at ARISE

ARISE High School serves a diverse student population with a range of academic and socio-emotional needs. This includes students who are performing below grade level, students who are performing above grade level, students who qualify for special education services, and students who are learning English as a secondary language. Serving all these students well is a core design element of the ARISE High School program.

In order for ALL students to be able to meet the high expectations that ARISE High School holds, a thorough system of support is critical.  While our entire school is designed in such a way as to make the educational experience highly personalized, attentive, and responsive, Student Support Services is both structure and philosophy at ARISE to provide intensive support towards helping students move forward.  While there are systems and programs that exist within Student Support, the work itself cannot be reduced to a process or policy.

As such, Student Support Services works within the whole school community to create the conditions, procedures, and resources to support struggling students academically & socio-emotionally using these approaches: Restorative Justice Praxis, Universal Education Model, and Response to Intervention (RTI). The links to the right provides details on these three approaches. While our model is squarely focused on integrated services throughout the school program and day, services to different subgroups are also detailed in accordance with the education code.

How Our Team Is Organized

Our Student Support team includes an academic counselor, a college and career counselor, a special education team, mental health clinicians, deans of restorative justice and school culture, and a team of ARISE alumni who serve as Academic Mentors and classroom TAs.

The Student Support Leadership Team defines the roles, responsibilities, and deliverables of everyone on the team. It sets the direction of our work, coordinates with the Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) and Team Freire, and looks at schoolwide data on student engagement to make sure every student succeeds.
