How to Apply for a Work Permit

There are 3 forms that must be completed. All forms must be completely filled out and accurate. Once all 3 forms have been submitted and verified, you will receive your work permit within 1-3 business days.

Please Note: If at any time GPA or attendance drop below minimum requirements, work permits may be revoked.

Work Hours for Minors

  Ages 16 & 17 Ages 14 & 15 Ages 12 & 13
SCHOOL IN SESSION - 4 hours per day on any school day
- 8 hours on any non-school day or on any day preceding a non-school day.
- 48 hours per week
- 3 hours per school day outside of school hours
- 8 hours on any non-school day
- 18 hours per week
- May be employed only during school holidays and vacations (usually construed to include weekends). May never be employed on any school day, either before, during, or after school.
- Daily and weekly work hour maximums while school is in session are not specified in statute, but may not exceed the maximum allowed when school is not in session or the maximum stated on permit.

Frequently Asked Questions

+ Do I need a work permit if I am 18-years old?

Yes! If you are enrolled as a high school student, you still need a permit in order to work while you are a student!

+ How long does it take to get my work permit?

After all forms are completed and verified, you will receive your permits within 2-3 business days. Please note that it may take longer if there is missing information or if additional information is needed.

+ How can I get my yearly permit after my provisional permit expires?

There will be specific requirements listed on your provisional permit that will need to be completed in order to receive your yearly permit. These requirements will need to be worked out with your academic counselor.

+ What if I work for a family business?

For legal purposes, ALL businesses employing a minor must have work permits filed for their student employers.

+ What if I do not have a Social Security Number?

Unfortunately, you must provide a SSN in order to receive a work permit.
